Great news for our UAV pilots…
DJI have announced that three of their most popular drones including the DJI Mini 2, which is used by our Drone Pilots, will soon be compatible with third-party apps for iOS. This is down to a big update to DJI’s mobile SDK (Software Development Kit), due to be released at the end of March.
The news means that 3rd party apps such as Litchi will be compatible with the latest updates. Two of the features we have been missing on the DJI Mini 2 are the “ActiveTrack Subject Tracking” and “Advanced Flight Planning” abilities that other models have included. Having the ability to use the subject tracking and advanced flight planning features on the DJI Mavic 2 will make life easier for us! At the moment, when flying the Mavic 2, our pilots have to manually fly a circuit around the telcoms mast or building when capturing shots to then process in to 3D models.
Now, using a Point Of Interest or setting an Advanced Flight Path, we will be able to create 3D Twins of Telecommunications Equipment and buildings much easier.
The reason why the DJI Mini 2, Mini SE and Air 2S were missing the ActiveTrack feature in the first place is because they don’t have Obstacle Avoidance Sensors. This makes any autonomous flying modes trickier to handle. However, 3rd party apps such as Litchi, developed by VC Technology Ltd, allow for you to make the most out of your DJI drones.
